6-year-old girl missing since 2019 found alive under staircase

A 6-year-old girl missing for over two years has been found alive by a detective in New York City.

Paislee Shultis was found in a "small, cold and wet" secret room under a staircase with her biological but non-custodial mother.

Police have arrested Paislee's biological parents on suspicion of abduction.

USA Today reports that multiple police agencies had investigated leads at the home of the girl's biological parents, but both parents denied any knowledge of her whereabouts and gave authorities limited access to search the house.

It was not until police obtained a full search warrant that a detective noticed something perculiar about the fabrication of the house's basement staircase.

After prying open the wooden-frame staircase, the detective saw the young girl and her mother wedged inside the cramped space.

Both biological parents along with her biological grandfather, who owned the property, have been arrested and are due in court on Wednesday, February 16th,
