€2m worth of cars have been seized in Clare and Tipperary

€2m worth of cars have been seized in Clare and Tipperary as part of an international money laundering investigation.

The Criminal Assets Bureau in conjunction with British police carried out the raids this morning in a crack down on cyber fraud in the UK.

Today officers from CAB and the West Midlands police carried out 6 raids on 4 homes and two businesses in Clare and Tipperary.

It's suspected that a UK criminal gang is using a car outlet in Co. Tipperary to launder the proceeds of mandate fraud - which involves regular payments via direct debits or standing orders.

80 cars worth €2m were seized along with cash worth €21,000 and €200,000 has been frozen in bank accounts linked to the gang.

The search of a used car outlet in Tipperary is ongoing.
