80 cent on every wine glass poured in Ireland goes to the exchequer

Ireland has the highest excise duty on wine in the European Union.

A new report from DCU has found that 80 cent on every glass goes towards the Exchequer.

That compares to France, which charges just one cent, while fourteen other EU member states don't have any excise on a standard pub measure.

Ireland also has the second highest excise on beers, and the third highest on spirits.
