Darkness Into Light walk against suicide set for May

The Darkness Into Light walk will take place on Saturday 6th May 2017 in aid of Pieta House.

Darkness Into Light is a movement against suicide, and money raised helps keep Pieta House's life-saving services free.

Brian Higgins is the CEO of Pieta House.

He spoke to Beat News, and described how the event has evolved.

"We started a walk in the Phoenix Park in Dublin with 400 walkers in 2009."

"In 2016 we had  130 thousand people, so in terms of awareness it's fantastic because people are engaging."

"We have a vision of a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma are replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance.

"So what we can do here in the house here in Waterford, and all the houses across the country, is very intricate and important between therapist and client."

"But in terms of what Darkness Into Light brings to that is that it's a way of sharing the message and sharing the worries over stigma and also breaking the stigma."
