Garda unit dealing with motor insurance fraud could be funded by taxpayer

A new Garda unit to deal with motor insurance fraud is "unlikely" to go ahead in it's proposed form, according to a South East TD.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is said to be against the suggested unit, because it would have been funded by the insurance industry and not the tax payer.

Concern is growing over the low levels of motor fraud prosecutions and rise in insurance premiums.
