Gardaí identify 'chief suspect' in the South East over Westmeath death

A post mortem examination has taken place on the body of a man found in Co. Westmeath yesterday.

The body of Belgian native Stefan Posschier, aged in his 60s, was found dead at a house near Milltownpass on Tuesday evening.

It's believed he met a violent death and attempts had been made to conceal the body.

The Garda Technical Bureau has carried out a forensic examination at the scene.

A man is assisting gardaí with their inquiries, however John Hand, Chief Reporter with the Irish Mirror, says they are yet to make any arrests.

"His body was found on Tuesday evening by a relative who raised the alarm with the gardai

"There was evidence of efforts made to conceal the body at the property.

"Gardaí have identified a chief suspect who was located in the South East of the country on the same evening of the discovery.

"This man has spoken to gardaí but he is yet to be arrested in relation to this investigation." 

The results of a post-mortem are due today.
