Hotel prices mean Bruce Springsteen fans would save money by seeing the star in Italy instead of Dublin

Bruce Springsteen fans can save €200 by travelling to see the rocker perform in Rome instead of staying in Dublin, according to Pearse Doherty.

The Sinn Fein TD is calling on the government to reign in spiraling hotel prices in Dublin and hold a meeting with industry bosses.

Pearse Doherty says customers should feel the benefit of the government's decision to extend the 9 percent VAT rate for hotels:

"The VAT is usually 13.5%."

"It's coming at a cost, it's the taxpayer that pays this money."

"We need to be making it very clear that we will not be providing these types of supports, if the hotel sector, particularly in Dublin, continue to do what they're doing, which is to charge the highest prices that they can and not recognise the impact that's going to have."
