Kildare woman needs 20 stitches after fox attack

A woman in Kildare was hospitalised after being attacked by a fox in her back garden this week.

Josie Hillis needed twenty surgical stitches to her face, arm and hand following the terrifying incident at her home near Brannockstown.

She told Kildare Now that the fox was attempting to capture one of her peahens in her garden last Tuesday when she tried to chase him away. However, the fox swung around and knocked her to the ground, before biting her on the face and arms.

After a ten-minute standoff with the fox, it finally left the garden. Mrs Hillis was admitted to Naas General Hospital where she needed four stitches on her ear, five to her finger, two on her arm and four on her lips and five in her mouth.

It's extremely rare for foxes to attack humans, unless they're threatened. Mrs Hillis is calling for the animal to be shot.
