Man killed after being hit by a tree in Co Wexford during Storm Eunice

Gardaí and emergency services attended a fatal incident this morning in the Ballythomas area of Co. Wexford.

It is understood that a man, aged in his 60s, was injured as a result of a falling tree.

The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was working with Wexford County Council while out helping to clear the damage during Storm Eunice.

A Spokesperson from Wexford County Council has released the following statement to Beat News.

It is with deep regret and sadness that Wexford County Council confirms that one of our employees was fatally injured earlier today in a workplace accident.

The accident occurred as the employee attended the scene of a fallen tree in the North Wexford area.

The employee’s family, An Garda Síochána and the Health and Safety Authority have been informed.

The body of the man will be removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

The Health Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and is due to attend the scene.
