Snorkeller dies in accident off South East coast

A post mortem will be carried out on the body of a man who died in a scuba diving accident yesterday evening.

The incident happened shortly before 6pm when two snorkelers got into difficulty in Ardmore in County Waterford.

Emergency services were alerted, and crew from the Coast Guard Rescue helicopter airlifted the men to safety.

One of the men, a man in his late 30s, was transferred to Waterford University Hospital where he later died.

The other man was uninjured.

A post mortem is expected to take place later this morning.

Sunday 12th June

A man has died this evening after getting into difficulty while snorkelling off the Waterford coast.

Two people were in the water in Ardmore, Co. Waterford when the accident occurred just before 6pm. The other snorkeller managed to get ashore and contact emergency services.

The Rescue 117 helicopter attended and airlifted the casualty. CPR was carried out on board while the person was transferred to Waterford University Hospital. However, efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
