South East hoteliers worry about impact of Brexit on visitor numbers

There are concerns over the impact Britain's decision to leave the EU will have on hotels and guesthouses here in the South East.

The Irish Hotels Federation are concerned Brexit could mean less British visitors to Ireland. The UK accounts for over 40 per cent of visitors to Ireland.

Chairman of the South East branch of the Irish Hotels Federation Aidan Quirke told Beat news that, "at the moment we're in the era of the unknown but the British tourist market is huge for the Irish economy."

He added, "visitor numbers from Britain are up 16% year to date. 62% of hotels and guesthouses have seen an increase in business from this market. We're very concerned about what affect it might have."
