Two cases of South African variant discovered in the UK

Two cases of the new variant of coronavirus have been discovered in the UK.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid also says four more countries in Africa have been added to Britain's travel red list.

They include Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Angola.

Mr Javid gave this update today:

"They have detected two cases of this new 'omicron' variant in the United Kingdom. One in Chumsford, the other in Nottingham.

The two individuals concerned are isolating as well as their whole households. The two cases are linked."
