Woman dies after being struck by Luas in Tallaght

Update 5.25pm: The red Luas line in Dublin has fully reopened after a pedestrian died after she was struck by a tram in Tallaght.

The woman has been named locally as Patricia Quinn, 71, from the Belgard area of Tallaght.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and asked drivers with dash-cam footage to hand it in.

Earlier 11.52am:A woman has died after she was struck by a Luas in Dublin this morning.

The incident occurred at 10am between the Cookstown and Tallaght Hospital Luas stops.

The woman, whose age is not yet known, was on foot when she was struck by the tram.

Her body remains at the scene.

Gardaí and emergency services are attending the incident and the Luas Red Line is currently suspended between Belgard and Tallaght. Dublin Bus is accepting tickets.

Local traffic diversions are also in place.

Gardai have issued an appeal for witnesses who may have been on the tram at the time of the incident, witnesses who were on Cookstown Way, or any motorist who may have dash-cam footage.
