Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi left his fans confused as he appeared to share his phone number with his social media followers.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday night, the Forget Me singer posted a photo of a phone contact "Lewis Capaldi" and their phone number.
Fans were baffled that Capaldi would share his private digits with his 5.7 million followers. "I'm so confused," wrote one Twitter fan. "Did Lewis Capaldi just leak his number or has he been hacked?"
But, clever Capaldi knew precisely what he was doing. It turned out that anyone who called the number did get through to Lewis, but they heard a recorded voice message:

The cheeky Scotsman had recorded a message promoting his new single. "Hello there, it's Lewis Capaldi, just wanna say thank you for listening to Pointless this week," says the voicemail. "Go buy it now, because my label is demanding yet another number one single....give me your money and I will give you my body and soul."
Anyone who calls the number also receives a text message with a link to buy and stream Capaldi's new track "Pointless".
What a crafty man.
Pointless is the second single from Capaldi's upcoming album "Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent", and was co-written with Ed Sheeran, Jonny McDaid of snow Patrol, and producer Steve Mac. The single was released on December 2nd and his new album will arrive in May 2023.
