Tipp shoppers on Santa's 'Nice' list?

Tipp shoppers on Santa's 'Nice' list?

It’s around this time that Santa starts checking his list to see who’s been naughty or nice and according to a Littlewoods survey,

Tipperary took home the title of the ‘nicest’ Irish county, with nearly 95% saying they were on Santa’s nice list – safe to say we can expect lots of amazing Christmas presents in Tipperary.

Dublin is the ‘naughtiest county’. When asked ‘Are you on the naughty or nice list?’, 21% of Dubs said they’re on the naughty list. The second naughtiest county was Meath, followed by Kildare, however there’s still plenty of time to get on Santa’s nice list, so don’t panic just yet.

County Limerick is home to some of the country’s biggest spenders, as 65% of the people surveyed will spend more than €500 on gifts. The People’s Republic came away with the less complimentary title of most frugal county, as the survey revealed that 58% of Corkonians will spend less than €500 on Christmas presents this year. As well as being the biggest spenders, Limerick is also the nation’s happiest county at Christmas time and boasts some of the best festive cheer and spirit around.

The Premier County by name and by nature, Tipperary boasts some of the earliest shoppers in the country. Almost a quarter of the people surveyed confessed to starting their shopping in September or earlier. In stark contrast, Littlewoods saw that Cork has some of Ireland’s latest shoppers, with 24% of people only starting their Christmas shopping in December.

Christmas is the time of year, when most of us will splash the cash and pamper our friends and family with gifts they’ll treasure for life. But when it comes to buying presents for your other half, the Littlewoods survey revealed that people between the ages of 24 and 29 will spend the most on their partners. With 32% of this age group spending €200 or more this festive season – ohh to be young!

While we may spoil our partners with high-end presents in our younger years, this lavish spending slows down with age. Our survey showed that people in long-term relationships tend to spend less as the years roll by, with only 22% of people aged over 50 spending more than €200 on their partner. Once again, the older generation prove that all you really need is love, but we’re sure a swanky gift would be appreciated too.

The rising popularity of Black Friday and Cyber Monday means that Christmas shopping is starting earlier and earlier each year. Of the people surveyed, 70.43% said they started some of their shopping on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday and who can blame them? You can’t beat a good bargain!
