Watch: Waterford Teachers take on Carpool Karaoke in hilarious Christmas shoot

We all know the drill at this point.

UK host turned US celebrity juggernaut, James Cordon, invites a musical guest for a drive along a planned route across LA suburbia.

The likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have made the bill in the past - but we have a sinking feeling that Cordon was missing a trick by not passing an invite onto this motley crew.

Enter nine teachers from from Abbey Community College, Ferrybank. Besides doing their very best to improve the iconic format, the teachers stir some new elements into the mix - including a Garda cameo and a woman wearing a school skirt and circumspect wig.

The video has gone viral since going live yesterday - clocking up an impressive 40,000 views.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, school principal Detta Cahill noted that the video was created to drum up interest for their upcoming talent show - a move that has since outstripped expectations.

"It just shows what a great team we have here at the school and speaks volumes about the teachers and how well they get on with the students", said the principal.

Our favourite moment? When the entire crew forgets the lyrics to the Shakin' Stevens classic, Merry Christmas Everyone.

"Ahh, Jaysus everyone forgets that bit", one passenger exhorts. Maybe a little more practice is needed before a potential Coden debut, lads!

Kudos to Stephen Lanigan, Eddie Cahill,  Paddy McGrath, Ollie Kiely, Brendan Cahill, Liam De Làsa, Liam Relihan, Eoin McCormack, and Davey Walsh for making our week.
