4 South East schools shortlisted for the Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards

Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh, Gorey Community School both in Wexford and Light of Christ N.S in Dunmore East & Presentation Secondary School in Waterford are celebrating after making the shortlist for the 2017 Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards. The awards, Open to primary school pupils from 3rd – 6th class and all secondary school students, showcase the best in School drama.

The winners will be announced On Wednesday 17 May. It's the fourth year of the hugely successful Awards which were set up by Bord Gáis Energy to recognise and reward participation in the dramatic arts in schools around Ireland. Over 1,000 schools have taken part in the competition since their launch in 2013 and last year saw over 2,000 students from counties across Ireland attend the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for the celebratory Awards ceremony.

The South East schools shortlisted:

Light of Christ N.S in Dunmore East - 'Best Dramatic Review' category for her review of ‘Mamma Mia’. Judges commended Aoife on an “engaging review and her excellent use of language”.

Presentation Secondary School, Waterford - 'Best Costume' category for its costume creations in the school production of ‘The Lion King’. The judges noted that the costumes were “beautifully made and the detail was fantastic”

Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh, Enniscorthy - 'Best Costumes' category for its costume creations in the school production of ‘Oíche Chiúin’. Judges commented that the costumes “really brought the story alive”.

Gorey Community School, Gorey - 'Best Choreography' category for its choreography in the production of ‘Disco Inferno’ by 5 th and 6th year students. Judges praised the students for their use of “seamless and professional” choreography
