Armed bank robbery in Waterford

Gardai are investigating an armed robbery which took place at a Waterford bank earlier this afternoon.

The incident happened at Ulster Bank on the Quay at approximately 1.30pm today.

A man entered the premises wearing dark clothing, possibly with a bright fluorescent vest, while his face was partially covered by a scarf.

He threatened staff and following threats he was provided with a sum of cash. He made good his escape on foot in the direction of Exchange Street.  Nobody injured in incident.

Gardaí units in the area including RSU units and armed detective units were dispatched immediately to the scene.

CCTV footage has been secured and the investigation is ongoing.
