Ex employees urge Government to fast-track 'Debenhams Bill'

Former Debenhams workers took to the streets of Dublin today to demand that what happened to them never happens again.

Ex employees of the Dublin, Cork and Waterford stores gathered outside the Dail urging the Government to fast-track the 'Debenhams Bill'.

If passed, future workers would be the first party paid by liquidators.

Former Shop Steward of Debenhams Henry Street in Dublin Jane Crow says it gives hope to future workers.

"We're also here to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else, that they are looked after, that they are prioiristed on the creditors list.

"Workers are at the very bottom of the list, so if there is money to be handed out. it goes to creditors and suppliers first.

"Any money that the workers are owed, they don't get it.

"So we're pushing that this is passed so all workers are looked after."
