Fianna Fáil leader urged to support UHW by cardiologists

The Fianna Fáil leader will today be briefed on the need for a second cath lab at University Hospital Waterford.

The lab has been the centre of a dispute between Junior Minister John Halligan and the government.

Up to 2,000 people took part in a protest in Waterford last weekend calling for increased services at the hospital.

Cardiologists from Waterford will meet Michael Martin later today.

Dr Rob Landers is Chief Clinical Director of the South West Hospital Group:

"Michael Martin with his previous expertise as Minister for Health will understand the case, will look at our case, will understand the figures, will understand the clinical needs and clinical risks we're carrying as a result of not having that second lab.

And that he will support University Hospital Waterford in their quest."
