HSE says people planning on taking drugs at music festivals should 'Leave the mixing to the DJ'

People who plan on taking drugs at music festivals this summer are being urged to 'go slow', 'stay hydrated' and 'leave the mixing to the DJ'.

The HSE's launching a new campaign today to highlight the steps people can take to reduce their risk of harm when taking drugs at gigs this summer.

It includes information on emerging trends as well as the do's and don'ts when taking drugs.

Head of the HSE's Addiction Services, Professor Eamon Keenan, says there's a worry the excitement for gigs post-Covid could result in increased drug use:

"Obviously, from the outset, the HSE would be saying that it's safer not to use drugs at all, but we're pragmatic"

"So we're highlighting some of the emerging trends, and we're giving the dos and don'ts for festivals to keep safe [in relation to drug use]."

"We're also going to be going to 3 different festivals, with volunteers, to provide support and information for people at those events."
