More investment needed in UHW says Sinn Fein Deputy

Waterford TD David Cullinane says that increased funding is needed for University Hospital Waterford to stop it going into decline.
David Cullinane, along with with his party's spokesperson on health, Louise O'Reilly, have released a document outlining a number of concerns at the hospital.

It contains information collected by Deputy Cullinane from the HSE as well as answers received at parliamentary questions.

The document shows significant increases in outpatient waiting lists, the doubling of hospital cancellations as well as a threefold increase in spending on agency staff.

Speaking at the Tower Hotel yesterday, Deputy Cullinane said "Since 2009 we have seen a serious lack of spend and investment at University Hospital Waterford.

"While demand is on the increase, capacity has been in sharp decline.

"The number of hospital cancellations has doubled, the number of patients on trollies has increased by 65%, spend on agency staff has trebled and the number of patients outsourced has increased by 100%.

"All of this points to a hospital in decline struggling to meet patient need.
