Irish Catholics want to see women priests

The Bishop of Limerick says ordaining women is not necessarily a solution to the issues affecting the Catholic church.

A survey - carried out among mass-goers in 26 Irish diocese - has found the majority want to see women priests.

They are also in favour of shorter sermons, allowing priests to marry and the church having more respect for the LGBTQI+ community.

Catholics around the world were provided with an opportunity to give their thoughts and views about the church.

However Bishop of Limerick Brendan Leahy says all of the issues raised in the survey need to be fully examined.
