McDonald's Ireland announce price hikes to some of its most popular foods

McDonald's has announced that it's set to increase the prices of some of its most menu items.

The price of a standard cheeseburger at the fast food chain is set to increase from €1.50 to €1.70.

Surprisingly, franchises are given limited freedom in setting their own prices so this increase may vary somewhat depending on the outlet.

According to the Irish Independent other "core items" such as breakfast meals, main meals, large coffees, McFlurrys, the Chicken Mayo, and the McNuggets share box will see price increases.

The majority of menu items will also be raised by between 10p and 20p in the UK.

McDonald's says some prices will remain unaffected, but it's seeing the cost of everyday items such as food and energy increase in a way many have never experienced.

Commenting on the price hikes, McDonald's UK & Ireland chief executive officer Alistair Macrow said the move is essential in order for the fast food chain to cope through "incredibly challenging times."

He continued: "Today's pressures mean, like many, we are having to make some tough choices about our prices."

It is not yet known what date these changes will come into effect.
