One Co. Waterford Post Office forced to close as An Post face staff crisis

Almost 1,100 staff at An Post are absent due to Covid.

Ballynamult in Co. Waterford is one of several offices across the country forced to close due to the issue.

The company says it has been a challenging time since Christmas and the situation is continuing this week.

Head of Corporate Communication at An Post, Anna Mc Hugh, says despite the challenges just four post offices across the country are closed as a result:

"We would hope that two of them would be open by mid-week."

"They tend to be smaller local post offices like High street in Cork, Ballynamult in Waterford - that's moved to Ballymacarbry for social welfare payments and the like."

"There are also closures in Co. Clare and Co. Leitrim."
