People and Place front and centre in Kilkenny Heritage Week

The theme for this year's Heritage Week is People and Place.

National Heritage Week runs from August 20th to 28th.

The Marble city has a full prgramme of events on offer over the week.

Heritage Officer with Kilkenny County Council Dearbhla Ledwidge explains the "Our Heritage" kids poetry competition.

"A few years ago we invited children in primary schools to write a poem about their heritage - we got 2,000 entries.

A year or so later we recorded - with the help of Beat 102 103 - the kids reciting their poems."

The exhibition runs in Jerpoint Abbey for Heritage Week.

Some of the exciting events taking place in Kilkenny include Ireland's only Medieval Rooftop Tour in Kilkenny City and a garden walk at Shankill Castle in Paulstown.
