The Army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on a suspect device in Waterford last night.

The object, thought to be a pipe bomb, was found in the back garden of a home in Central Avenue, Lisduggan at around 2.00pm yesterday.

The Army EOD travelled from Cork and arrived at the scene shortly before 5.00pm.

They carried out a controlled explosion of the device and declared the scene safe shortly before 8.00pm.

It's not known whether the device was viable.
