The date for the Junior Cert results has been announced

Transition year and 5th year students will receive their Junior Cert results on Wednesday the 23rd of November, five months since they sat their exams.

The State Examinations Commission has cited a shortage of examiners and the second sitting of the Leaving Cert as some of the reasons for the delay.

A small number of subjects, where examiner availability was a particular issue, are still being marked.

Education Editor with the Irish Times, Carl O'Brien, says the junior cert results play a vital role in students deciding their career:

"You have those students who skip Transition Year and go straight into 5th year. Those results are important when deciding what your subjects are for the Senior Cycle."
