US drops test requirements for international travellers

The United States will drop a need for travellers to test negative for COVID-19 before entering the country.

The change will take effect at midnight Sunday for all passengers arriving by plane, including those who haven't been vaccinated.

Previously all passengers needed to show a negative Covid test taken shortly before travel - or proof of having recovered from the virus in the past 90 days - before they boarded their flight.

The Irish Travel Agents Association's welcoming the move, describing the lifting of covid entry requirements to the US as 'a very positive step.'

ITAA CEO Pat Dawson says it's great news for Irish people travelling to the US. "We're all very much relieved that this has happened, we saw it sort of coming down the track but didn't think it'd be this quickly so it's good news and vey positive news because there's many aircraft going in and out of Ireland to the States"

He added "you'll get through clearance quicker without having to show any further documentation once you leave Ireland as such, so it should be very very smooth"
