Gardai in Wexford are investigating the assault of a young woman in Wexford Town early last Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old local woman was making her way home from a work Christmas night out when she was violently assaulted on George’s Street.

The attack took place at around 3am on Sunday morning and Gardai have confirmed that the woman received a broken nose and many bruises in the assault.

The woman was brought by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital and later transferred to Waterford University Hospital.

Her sister told the Wexford People that “he kicked the living daylights out of her. The fight in her saved her life. This was an unprovoked attack with excessive violence. No personal belongings were taken.”

The violent assault only came to an end when a woman in an apartment nearby heard the noise and went to her balcony to shout at the attacker.

An incident room has been set up at Wexford Garda Station and investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
