Woman arrested in connection with Wexford dog attack on 9-year-old boy

A woman has been arrested in connection with an incident in which a dog attacked a 9-year-old boy in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.

Gardaí arrested the woman in her 30s this morning on Monday, December 5th and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Enniscorthy Garda Station.

Alejandro Mizsan was seriously injured by a pitbull near his home in Enniscorthy on Sunday last while playing with his friends on a nearby green.

It is understood the woman confessed to owning the dog on social media.

Gardaí say they continue to investigate "all the circumstances of the incident that occurred on Sunday, November 27th 2022, in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, where a male child received serious injuries after being attacked by a dog."

Alejandro continues to receive treatment in Crumlin Children's Hospital — eight days on from the horrific incident.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe set up by a neighbour of the Mizsan family has raised in excess of €162,000.

Writing on the fundraiser page Caroline said it's "only right to help so I am making this GoFundMe to donate anything to give this little boy his beautiful smile back and get him back home."

The post continued: "My heart is truly broken for his family. What trauma and agonising pain this vicious attack has had on an innocent little boy [who was] just playing with his friends."
