'Wonky donkey' gets a prosthetic leg for just in time for Christmas

In the UK, a donkey called Tommy has been granted an early Christmas present - becoming what's believed to be the first in Britain to be fitted with a prosthetic leg.

The animal, from Worcester, was called a "wonky donkey" after being born with a weak front leg meaning he has always struggled with mobility. It also left him with a damaged back and shoulder as a result.

Tommy's owner Gary contacted a human prosthetics company after becoming concerned where experts have created a special artificial limb to help him walk more comfortably.

The prosthetic is fitted every morning using a hoist that takes Tommy's weight. However, Tommy is apparently getting so used to his new limb that he is started to want to sleep with it on.

Tony Niven is Tommy's osteopath, he gives him laser treatment every two weeks to help ease discomfort and build muscle strength.

He said; "It's fantastic that he's already got an attachment to it, that he doesn't see it as something horrible. It was either that or basically sit and wait for him to not be able to move."
