League of Ireland First Division review: Wexford deliver three star performance in Bray
Wexford FC v Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds

James Keddy will have woken up with a huge smile this morning after Wexford FC earned all three points in an emphatic away victory against Bray Wanderers.

Wexford banished the disappointment of successive league defeats with a deserved 3-0 win at the Carlise Grounds.

There was a familiar face in Ian Ryan waiting in Bray, and he was aware of the importance of this promotion playoff six-pointer.

An early Kian Corbally tap-in, followed by second-half goals from Thomas Oluwa and Eoin Kenny, saw the Ferrycarrig outfit jump into sixth place, just two points behind their promotion rivals.

The game was not without talking points, as three players were dismissed from play.

The home side saw Dane Massey banished after 59 minutes for a straight red card, with Jack Hudson following him off with three minutes to play.

While Darragh Levingston received two yellow cards in 20 second-half minutes for Wexford, leaving the field after 82 minutes.

Speaking to Beat Sport after the game, Keddy recognised the importance of the continued Wexford support.

"The team worked hard tonight and delivered a great performance," he said.

"I'm delighted for the players, the staff and the fantastic support."

The only black mark on the evening was the worrying injury to striker Aaron Dobbs.

With 30 minutes played, the fan-favourite was stretchered off the field with a head injury amid distressing scenes for those in attendance.

Thankfully, following immediate hospital attention, Dobbs has returned home with scans producing positive results.

Oluwa made his first appearance as a first-half replacement, following his loan move from Waterford FC.

He enjoyed the dream debut by netting a fine finish after 69 minutes.

He spoke with Ronan McCarthy afterwards and was extremely happy to start with a goal.

Next up for Keddy and co is an FAI Cup First Round meeting with Avondale United at home on Friday, July 21.

Galway United extended their lead at the top of the table to 16 points with a 1-nil win away to Athlone Town.

David Hurley headed home an exquisite header with six minutes to play.

Elsewhere, Finn Harps beat Cobh Ramblers 4-3 in a Ballybofey thriller.

A brace from Wilson Waweru and a debut strike from Mikie Rowe were not enough to preserve the Cork side's unbeaten run, although they do remain third.

Waterford FC were left frustrated after their trip to Markets Field was abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.

The fixture will be rescheduled in due course.

Finally, tonight's fixture between Longford Town and Kerry FC has been given the green light after pitch inspections.

There is a 7:30 pm start time this evening (Saturday, July 15).
