Grunts better than words, research finds

It's emerged that we respond better to grunts or sobs rather than words, when it comes to emotions.

A study at McGill University in Canada has found we pay more attention when someone growls, laughs or cries - than when they talk to us about how they feel.

They tested people on three basic emotions and asked them to identify which was which.

Researchers think sound effects give more meaning faster, than someone talking about their feelings and are apparently consistent with studies of non-human primates.
