Cillian gets his car!

Cillian gets his car!

Remember the Russell family from Carrick On Suir in County Tipperary?

Cillian Russell is five years old and lives with his parents Mick & Michelle, brother Conor and sister Ruth. The three children are triplets and were born at just 27 weeks. At one week old, Cillian's heart stopped and as a result he's quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

At the beginning of 2015, a group including Cillian's family began a fundraising initiative called 'A Car For Cillian' so that the family could purchase a wheelchair accessible vehicle and Cillian's parents could wheel him into the car comfortably to sit beside his brother and sister.

There were many fundraising efforts in 2015. Cillian's mam and a group of friends ran the Dublin marathon and a sponsored cycle was held in Carrick-On-Suir.

In November, Beat decided to surprise the family with a pre-Christmas treat to recognise all of the hard work put into the fundraising. As part of the station's Feel Good Friday campaign, the Russell Family was whisked off to Rathwood to take a special trip on the Santa Train.

In total, the 'Car For Cillian' campaign raised over €30,000 meaning they could afford their specially equipped vehicle. They also donated money to Clonmel Paediatric Unit. AND.... this weekend, their car arrived! As you can see, everyone loves it!
