Leftfield To Headline Daytripper

Leftfield To Headline Daytripper

The South East’s BIG music weekender is back at the beginning of July for Year 4 of Daytripper. Having previously announced Ocean Colour Scene as headliner for Saturday, 2 July, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their classic Moseley Shoals album, with support from Stereo MCs, Neville Staple (The Specials) and Smash Hits (amongst others), on Friday, 1 July, Daytripper pays homage to that most legendary of festivals, Homelands Ireland, with a line up of 6 electronic music acts all of whom made an appearance at Mosney in 1999 or 2000. Headliners, Leftfield, are simply one of the best live music acts on the planet and will be supported on the main stage by 2 great Irish live acts King Kong Company and The Disconauts. On the second stage, alternating between the live acts, will be DJ sets by Mr C (The Shamen, The End), Bushwacka (Layo & Bushwacka!) and Mark Kavanagh who will kick things off with a special 1999/2000 classics set. Day Tickets €42.50 are available now at daytripper.ie, 051 874402 and The Theatre Royal box office. Weekend tickets will be available when Sunday headlliner announced.

Leftfield are one of the ‘Big 5’ of electronic music’s major acts (alongside Underworld, Orbital, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy) that came to the fore on the global dance music scene in the mid 90s. They have a legendary reputation for their live performance, which once saw bits falling off the Brixton Academy in London due to their earth shattering bass and also saw them headline the Homelands England, Scotland and Ireland festivals in Year 2000 to a combined audience of 100,000 up for it Party People. Homelands Ireland at Mosney was a major step forward for the whole electronic music scene in Ireland, taking place just twice in 1999 and 2000. Sixteen years later, Leftfield’s majestic performance is still ingrained on the memory of those 25,000 people lucky enough to have been there. The only other live Leftfield performances in Ireland since then have been headline appearances at Electric Picnic (2010), Forbidden Fruit (2012) and Body & Soul (2015), so Daytripper is honoured to host their first ever Irish appearance outside the Dublin area.

Leftfield have released 3 incredible albums in their career, believing in quality over quantity. The seminal ‘Leftism’ (1995) contained the classics ‘Song Of Life’, ‘Open Up’ (featuring John Lydon), ‘Release The Pressure’ and ‘Original’. The follow up ‘Rhythm and Stealth’ (1999) was just as good with ‘Phat Planet’ (who remembers that Guinness ad ?), ‘Afrika Shox’, ‘Swords’ and ‘Dusted’ among it’s highlights. Fast forward to 2015 and Leftfield’s first album in 16 years ‘ Alternative Light Source’ wowed the critics once again and made many of the Top Album lists for last year. So whether you are a new fan of the band hooked by the brilliance of the current material, or are one of those who were at Homelands Ireland in 1999/2000, get yourself to Daytripper on Friday, 1st July, for still one of the best live acts on the planet!
