Four acts battled it out at the Set Theatre in Kilkenny on Saturday in the final of the Beat Busk Off with Yulefest Kilkenny.

The competition saw presenters take to the streets of Kilkenny on Saturday afternoons during Yulefest to find the South East’s most talented buskers.

Four acts were selected from the streets to perform in front of a panel of judges at the Set Theatre in the final which was broadcast live on Beat.

The four finalists were duo Darragh Mahon and Ger Brennan from Kilkenny, 13-year-old Josh Doyle from Castledermot in Kildare, duo Jake Doyle and Lauris Millers from Carlow, and Oisin Walsh Agnew from Kilkenny.

Each act performed a classic Christmas song during their twenty-minute set in front of the judges. The judging panel comprised of Niall Power (Head of Music, Beat), Geraldine Fahey (Music Promoter, Kilkenny) and Ciaran Conroy (Butler House/Yulefest).

The eventual winner was 18-year-old Oisin Walsh Agnew from Thomastown in Kilkenny. Oisin wowed the judges with his cover of Santa Baby and performed a number of his own original songs.

Chair of the judging panel Niall Power said “each of the finalists brought something different to the final and we were blown away by the high standard. Oisin edged it because of his incredible stage presence, his unique voice and his courage in filling half of his set with original songs.”
