They were furry, noisy and a little bit creepy.

Furbies. Who could forget the strange half owl half gremlin like robot that suddenly everyone wanted?

The iconic toy celebrates its 25th anniversary this year , prompting manufacturers Hasbro to relaunch the toy, with a Gen Alpha update.

The new Furby mostly resembles the old Furby toys, but has a slightly snazzier look. They come in brighter colours, such as coral and purple, their ears light up in different colours, and they can be brushed and dressed up with beads and accessories .

Just like their predecessors, these little guys will speak on command and 'learn' from their owners, (though you can still expect a bunch of unintelligible nonsense really), and they will also be able to interact with other furbies. The new toys incorporate five different "modes" (Dance Party, Copy Cat, Tell My fortune, Let's Chill and Light Show) and respond to hugs and pats on the head.

Crucially, it also seems you can turn these furbies off. The first iteration had a habit of suddenly talking in the middle of the night, so you can expect less creepy interruptions from the new batch of furby friends.

According to Metro UK, the Furby Interactive toy is variable to pre-order from Smyths UK on June 29th. They are currently priced at approximately €87.50 or £74.99.

In other furby news, a deconstructed old furby recently revealed its plans to take over the world.
