Paul Shefflin, brother of Henry, dies aged 41

Paul Shefflin, the brother of legendary Kilkenny hurler Henry Shefflin, has died suddenly, aged 41.

Tributes have been pouring in for the father of four, who died suddenly while out running yesterday afternoon (4th March)

A popular man in the local community, the Ballyhale Shamrocks AGM has been postponed as a mark of respect.

Priest of Ballyhale Fr Seán O'Connor described Mr Shefflin's death as a 'tragedy for the whole parish'.

“They are totally [in shock]. We haven’t heard much else at the moment.” he told the Independent.

The 41-year-old was a former All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship winner in the famous Ballyhale outfit, playing alongside his brother, and was former Senior Club Treasurer.

He was also involved in coaching underage teams, and invested his time in developing future hurling talent in the South-Kilkenny parish.

Paul Shefflin is survived by his wife Aoife, four children, parents Henry and Mai, brothers and sisters and the extended Shefflin and McCarthy families.
